Why Rasmus Hojlund is not included in Manchester United’s team to play Nottingham Forest

Rasmus Hojlund, a striker for Manchester United, is sick and will not be available for Saturday night’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Hojlund ended his 14-game domestic goal drought on Boxing Day when he scored his first Premier League goal in the Red Devils’ thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa at home.

The Denmark international, however, will not have another opportunity to score in 2023 as he is ruled out of United’s match against Forest.

Hojlund has stayed at home due to illness, according to United’s confirmation.

A statement from the club read: “Rasmus Hojlund, who scored his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, is unfortunately unavailable for this evening’s game at Nottingham Forest due to illness.”

Hojlund is not the only United attacker afflicted by illness; Anthony Martial was also recently taken ill.

Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, and Lisandro Martinez are among the players who are not participating in the game at the City Ground.

Nonetheless, Amad Diallo, who has missed the entire season due to a knee injury, is back in the matchday squad.

Erik ten Hag’s team could return to sixth place with a victory at Forest, ahead of West Ham United, who play Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday. In the event that they don’t get the desired results, United can finish the holiday season ranked as low as eighth.

Nottingham Forest will be faced by the following Man Utd starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Evans, Dalot; Mainoo, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho; Rafael
