STEELERS NEWS: Cam Heyward Explains Where He Stands With Pittsburgh Amid Contract Dispute.-See more

Steelers Cam Heyward gives an update on his current thinking while the contact issue continues.

The Pittsburgh Steelers received surprising news when it was revealed that their longstanding captain, Cameron Heyward, would be skipping Organized Team Activities (OTAs) for the first time in his career. Heyward explained that he was skipping OTAs to secure a new deal with Pittsburgh before returning to the team.

On Tuesday, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac shared some good news with supporters, announcing that Heyward had rejoined the squad for the third week of practice. While this is a wonderful development for the Steelers and their fans, it does not necessarily imply Heyward is satisfied.

Heyward returned to face numerous questions regarding his future. Heyward told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor that while he returned, it does not signify any positive development behind the scenes with his new contract.

Heyward underlined his intention to be a “one helmet” player, expressing unequivocally how much longer he want to play. At 35 years old, he aspires to play for at least three more seasons, ideally finishing in Pittsburgh. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo said that Heyward will attend minicamp and be present when training camp begins. However, the chance of Heyward holding in persists.

A hold-in is not the same as a hold-out. In a hold-in, a player is present at training camp, but does not participate in team activities until his contract dispute is resolved. While it’s better than a hold-out, it still sends a similar message. Heyward is unhappy about not getting a new deal, but felt it necessary to be around the team. The situation in Pittsburgh regarding Heyward’s future continues to evolve, but it appears likely that he will suit up for the Steelers in 2024.

The idea of Heyward finishing his remarkable career anywhere other than Pittsburgh seems improbable, but it could become a reality if the Steelers do not offer a satisfactory new deal. Heyward revealed that he skipped OTAs to make the best decision for himself.

His return does not signify any positive developments from his perspective. As a team leader, he likely felt it was time to be back with his teammates. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining if the Steelers organization and Heyward can reach an agreement.

At this stage in Heyward’s career, he is battling against father time—a battle no one ever truly wins. However, he remains confident that he still has three solid years of football left. As he enters the final year of his contract extension, Heyward wants the Steelers to secure his future so he doesn’t have to worry about it. Skipping OTAs was a strategic move to help his cause.

Steelers’ Cameron Heyward Is Still Unhappy With The Organization It is unclear how Heyward’s contract situation will evolve. While his return to the team is encouraging, the Steelers will make the best decision for their organization, and Heyward will weigh his alternatives. The squad would love to have Heyward back playing for them in 2024. It seemed improbable that he will not be, but anything is possible in the NFL.
