Steelers LB Cole Holcomb has provided an update on his knee injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Cole Holcomb is not on the field at OTAs after sustaining a season-ending knee injury against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 last year, but he told Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that there is nothing to be concerned about.

“I’ve dealt with injuries previously.” I’m not worried or anything. Holcomb told Batko, “I know I’ll come back and play football. The timing for Holcomb’s comeback is unclear, although Mike Tomlin stated at OTAs that Holcomb was making progress in his recuperation.

“He’s working hard to get back to us and doing an excellent job,” Tomlin added. Cole Holcomb’s injury occurred against the Titans and was caused by friendly fire.

Holcomb’s knee went into hyperextension, resulting in a catastrophic injury. This led him to miss the remainder of the season, and Pittsburgh had no idea when he would return.

“I can tell you Cole [Holcomb] is working really hard to come back,” Steelers general manager Omar Khan told reporters prior to the NFL Draft.

“I don’t have anything to offer to the chronology. We talked about it; it was a serious injury, but he’s working hard, and I’m optimistic about the effort he’ll put in to get back on the field.”

The Steelers signed Patrick Queen to the richest free-agent contract in franchise history and drafted Chuck Bednarik Award winner Payton Wilson in the third round. Elandon Roberts, a veteran, will also be part of the linebacker rotation. He’ll likely start next to Queen.

With Queen, Roberts, Wilson, and Holcomb at linebacker, the Steelers have the best depth at the position in years. The Steelers believe the overhauled linebacker corps can fill the shoes of Ryan Shazier, whom the Steelers have been hunting for at inside linebacker since Shazier’s catastrophic career-ending spinal cord injury in December 2017.
