When Manchester United visits Anfield on Sunday, Michael Owen predicts a “reasonably comfortable win” for Liverpool, saying Erik ten Hag’s team will be anxious.

Michael Owen predicts Liverpool vs Man Utd, highlighting Erik ten Hag’s issues.

United is under intense pressure going into the match after losing badly to Bournemouth 3-0 the previous weekend and being eliminated from Europe in the middle of the week. In addition, they might be without up to 13 players for the game since Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both sustained injuries against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

After giving up seven goals in the same game the previous season, Owen, who played for both clubs during his career, thinks some United players will be satisfied if they only lose 2-0.

“Given their recent performance, I think United will be a little anxious about traveling to Anfield,” Owen said to Boyle Sports, the source of the most recent Premier League odds. “You may take a serious thrashing at Anfield, and United has experienced it in the past!

“United should take a cue from Spurs’ performance against Man City, rather than coming there fearful and defending the entire game. They were fearless when they got to the Etihad Stadium because they had a solid plan.

“They easily could have lost 6-1, but you can only get better by doing that. You can make changes to the blueprint after you’ve got it. My fear for United is that they’ll visit Anfield and lose 2-0, at which point some players will be happy it wasn’t a humiliating 5-0 loss! If I were them, I would choose a strategy, follow it, and aim for improvement.

Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag is in a big pressure.

“I’ll give Liverpool a 2-0 lead. It should be a rather easy victory. Owen thinks the rivalry between the two clubs remains the greatest in English football, even though their current fortunes are different.

“I still believe that Man United vs. Liverpool is still the biggest,” he continued. But history will record Man City as the most decorated team if they win 15 titles in the following 20 years.

“I believe that more people will watch Man United vs. Liverpool than any other Premier League game, based on the size of the fanbases, histories, stadiums, and everything else around those clubs. It remains, in my opinion, the greatest rivalry”.
