Liverpool believes they have a chance of signing a £15 million defender better than Virgil Van Dijk January.

Years after being likened to Virgil van Dijk, Jonathan Tah, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, is a target for Liverpool.

Liverpool believes they have a chance of signing a £15 million defender better than Virgil Van Dijk January.

Joel Matip’s serious knee injury may force Liverpool to enter the transfer market in January.

As possible Virgil van Dijk partners, Jurgen Klopp still has Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah at his disposal.

Matip will probably go at the end of the season, therefore Liverpool might be persuaded to sign a long-term player to bolster Klopp’s defense.

Following the comparison to Virgil van Dijk, Jonathan Tah is of interest to Liverpool.

Jonathan Tah is the most recent name to be included.

According to 90min, Liverpool is eager to welcome Tah, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, to Anfield in January.

According to that source, Tah’s transfer appears to be a real possibility, as Liverpool feels like a deal can be done for him.

Given that they are vying for the Bundesliga championship, Leverkusen will undoubtedly not want to let go of Tah, although there might be some concerns with his release clause.

According to German publication Kicker, Tah’s contract contains a release clause worth €18 million (£15 million) that can be triggered at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Leverkusen might be inclined to cash in and collect the money before that provision expires if Liverpool offers a greater price in January.

Tah once made the Liverpool defender comparison. Van Dijk, Virgil

Given that Tah was previously compared to the player he could combine with at Anfield, Liverpool’s interest in him is intriguing.

In 2020, Voetbal International reported that former Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz had observed genuine resemblances between Tah and Virgil van Dijk.

Bosz believed that Van Dijk’s aggressive defensive style, which Tah hadn’t consistently observed, was what truly set the two apart.

Bosz stated, “I definitely see similarities between Jonathan and Virgil van Dijk.” Because Van Dijk is Dutch, I am familiar with him. He has improved, but he still needs to learn how to defend aggressively. Jonathan will most doubt be successful in it as well. He performs best, in my opinion, when he plays aggressively. He is a great player if he puts that on the mat. It will appear quite different if he doesn’t. The main distinction with him is that,” he continued.

Tah will provide Liverpool with another strong and agile defender while also having the opportunity to play alongside Van Dijk and learn from him.

Perhaps because of his real turn of pace and 6ft 5in height, the German is a real presence, which is why Bosz spotted the similarities.

Even though Tah hasn’t quite surpassed Van Dijk since those remarks, it could be interesting to watch them work together at Anfield.
