Some people might have been surprised by Liverpool’s roster for their Europa League matchup against Union Saint-Gilloise tonight.

Just now, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed his four players he believes are the most important to the team.

Given that Liverpool had already advanced to the round of 16, many people were probably expecting Jurgen Klopp to “play the kids” in Belgium.

The Reds do, in fact, have bigger fish to fry. Anfield is set to have a busy week starting on Sunday, with three major matches taking place there in six days: Manchester United, West Ham, and Arsenal. Therefore, there are no chances to be taken for the game this evening.

Still, Klopp has selected a much more formidable 23-man roster than many may have anticipated.

Of course, there are some young players there, and it will be intriguing to watch if players like Ibrahima Konate, Darwin Nunez, and Dominik Szoboszlai participate. Most likely, they won’t.

However, some much bigger names were completely omitted off the roster, even though other huge names were included. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, and Mohamed Salah will not be visiting Belgium. As such, we believe we can now infer who Klopp considers to be his most crucial players.

The “untouchable” foursome of Klopp

Jamie Carragher accurately predicted this last month. This quartet was identified by the former Reds defender as a group of “untouchable” Liverpool players.

These four players have stayed consistent throughout the Reds’ recent evolution as a team, together with Andy Robertson.

Other players that were part of the 23-man matchday squad for the 2019 Champions League final are still affiliated with the team. Joel Matip isn’t in the same league as Caoimhin Kelleher and Joe Gomez, albeit they aren’t frequent starts either. These five are already, to a man, the real club legends.

Robertson is obviously injured right now and is unable to affirm his status as one of Klopp’s “untouchables” at this time. However, it seems likely that the captain of Scotland would have also been left behind at home for this one.

In our opinion, Szoboszlai should have been included in this list of things to avoid.

Although the Hungarian has no prominence comparable to the four players left out, he is an important player for Liverpool right now.

Szoboszlai had played a lot of football lately, so it would have felt right to hold him back. Given the injury to Alexis Mac Allister, the Reds cannot afford for anything to happen to their eighth player. I hope that tonight is only a quick viewing for him.

What Klopp’s indomitable four do with their evening off is still to be seen. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Van Dijk in particular depart in his capacity as captain. However, they can act with confidence knowing that their standing at this football team is unmatched at this time.
