Under the Dutchman, the Red Devils improved last season, finishing third in the Premier League and making two cup finals. Success in the Carabao Cup also hinted that United could win trophies under Ten Hag, and over the summer, anticipation built that the 2023–24 season might be the team’s greatest in a while.

However, the club has had a terrible start to the season because none of its summer acquisitions have yet to adjust and have a significant influence. In fact, Brighton’s 3-1 home loss on Saturday could, and perhaps even should, have been far worse.

Prior to Hannibal Mejbri’s goal, Roberto De Zerbi’s team had a comfortable 3-0 lead. At a bitterly agitated Old Trafford, the goal was merely consolation.

With this defeat, United has now lost three straight games, which is their worst start to a Premier League season since 1989. According to Football365, Ten Hag and United are mired in a dysfunctional quagmire.

In fact, the debate surrounding Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford has already reached a critical point. To that end, the United manager has been warned that poor showings and outcomes threaten to undo all his hard work from the previous campaign.Chris Sutton also believes that Ten Hag is unable to handle the circumstances surrounding Jadon Sancho.

The next challenging Champions League match for United is against Bayern Munich and Harry Kane. Even though they are the second favorites going into the game, they will be held to a far higher standard of play.

On Saturday night against Burnley, that will once again be the bare minimum anticipated. And Ten Hag may have a very difficult time if he doesn’t get all three points at Turf Moor.

Now, Planet Sport representative Robbie Savage has said that while it is too soon to fire Ten Hag right now, pressure will mount on him if things don’t get better by Christmas.

Savage believes United’s title fight is over because they are already nine points behind Manchester City, which is maybe more concerning.

It has been one of their worst ever Premier League campaign openings. The team’s performance is extremely lacking, and some of the substitutions—such as [Rasmus] Hojlund being removed at the weekend—are also pretty odd.

The fact that Brighton triumphed at Old Trafford didn’t surprise me in the least. Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure because he needs to change the way they play so that the players can play to the best of their abilities.

If the squad isn’t winning football games, “anyone who occupies that seat is instantly under enormous pressure. Any manager of Manchester United must be able to win football games and do so in a particular manner. The remaining Premier League games this season are unquestionably must wins because Ten Hag is falling far short of that.

“In the Champions League, I don’t see them having any success against Bayern Munich, and after only five games, they have already lost the title battle, realistically. Given the additions, I anticipated United to exert pressure on City, but they are a long way off.

For Ten Hag, the Champions League campaign is vital.

Savage said, “Ten Hag should be given until at least Christmas because the new players need time to buy into his philosophy and way of playing, but if things don’t get better come that time, I think it might be time for a change,” explaining why Ten Hag should be given more time.

“Manchester United cannot win the Premier League, and some people might have already claimed so. But after five games and a minus four goal differential, to be nine points down at this point. It’s not appropriate. So, certainly, and there is undeniable pressure on Ten Hag at this time.

You know, there may be a few people who believe Manchester United needs a change, but I disagree. Because they’ve added new players to the team, they need to incorporate them into his philosophy and playing style. He should be given at least till Christmas.

“However, if nothing has improved by Christmas, I believe it may be time for a change.

“Of course [the axe could fall] if results continue in this vein, and at Christmas, it’s no better.”Results, in my opinion, will determine Hag’s course of action because by that time, we will be aware of their standing in the Champions League. And if they didn’t go through the group stage and either dropped into the Europa League or were eliminated from the competition, I believe that would obviously change the course of the remainder of the season. However, there are still two and a half months till then, so the time to act is not now.
