Well, not so much a Liverpool legend as a legend of the game. Although there are others who contest that assessment, Thiago Alcantara is without a doubt among the top midfielders of the last ten or more years.

The 32-year-old is ‘unlikely’ to leave Liverpool in January, despite claims of interest, at the very least. Prior to the start of the season, Thiago apparently made the decision to accept the terms of his contract at Anfield, despite advances from Saudi Arabia.

 

He therefore appears to be a free agent come summertime of next year. The Athletic then states that Thiago will have “many options” to choose from about his next course of action.

 

The Thiago tale is coming to an end.

We may be in the minority here, but we would extend Thiago’s contract if he becomes well enough to stay at Liverpool.

 

It is apparent that his injury problems cannot be justified if they persist for the remainder of the campaign.

However, we don’t see why Thiago shouldn’t stay if he, say, returns in January and remains healthy for the remainder of the season.

 

The Spaniard has squandered time at Liverpool during this season and the first part of the previous one. We feel as though we have been cheated out of witnessing a master at work for the better part of the last three years.

 

 

What could possibly go wrong with a one-year contract if Jurgen Klopp continues to believe in his potential? Having Thiago around has unquestionably more benefits than drawbacks. His teammates adore him, including Nat Phillips, who in 2021 described him as “unbelievable” [liverpoolfc.com].

 

Regretfully, in his three years with the Reds, we haven’t quite seen the class that brought him those honors frequently enough.

 

Even yet, Thiago’s leaving day will be bittersweet. And The Athletic says that day is “likely” to come next summer.

 

According to reports, Klopp and his coaches have also been lamenting the loss of their No. 6 thus far this season. He is obviously still part of the manager’s plans when he is available.

 

The other possibility is that Liverpool failed to get the best out of one of the greatest midfield players of all time and allowed him to leave for nothing. That would be a grave mistake.

 

Many supporters will now hold the opposing viewpoint. They’ll probably think Thiago is a costly liar who has lost all credibility. But just watch him turn on the style and move somewhere else, leaving Liverpool with even more regrets. This story can still go beyond the summer of next year.
